VARIATION OF JOINT ORIENTATION IN BLOCK THEORY ANALYSIS

A method for evaluating the effects of joint orientation variability on block theory analysis is presented. Ramsay's solution for the range of the direction of the line of intersection of two variable planes is generalized to joint sets with unequal angular variability. An analytical treatment of variable joint pyramids is discussed. Removability of variable joint pyramids at determinate or variable free surfaces is explored directly by use of the joint pole pyramid.
