SECURING FOR ROLLTRAILERS AND ROLUX--NEW TOP LASHINGS THE ANSWER

Unlike the situation with road and railway transport, no specific rules regarding the forces that are acting govern the dimensioning of cargo securing arrangements for sea transport. This is because vessels of different types and sizes roll differently, and because sea conditions are quite different on different routes. It is known, however, that acceleration forces increase in proportion to the cargo's distance from the ship's center of gravity. These forces are discussed, and developments in ro/ro cargo top lashings designed to withstand them are described.
