The major section of this article is devoted to describing a new breathing apparatus introduced by Racal Panorama. Known as the 2000CF, it achieves a considerable weight reduction over comparable apparatus without reducing the volume of air contained, and couples this reduction with an increase in duration and, therefore, in user working time. The remaining three brief sections of the article deal with, respectively: the introduction by Racal Panorama of a respirator of extreme simplicity for emergency escape from hazardous atmospheres; the Racal Lifesaver, a positive pressure airline breathing apparatus combined with an escape cylinder and primarily designed for the on and offshore oil and gas industry; and the establishment by Racal Panorama of the International Training Centre in West Sussex, UK, for teaching the use, care and maintenance of breathing apparatus.
