NEW ENGINE INCORPORATES MODULAR DESIGN FEATURES
The new 595 series of diesel engines announced by the German firm of MTU-Motoren-und Turbinen-Union is described. The series consists of 12 and 16 cylinder versions with power outputs from 2,000 kW to 4,400 kW (2,650 hp to 5,880 hp) and speeds from 1,500 revs/min. to 1,800 revs/min. To ease maintenance, the engines are designed in modular form and comprise three distinct parts: the basic engine, the turbocharging unit, and the service block, including ancillary parts. They are four-stroke liquid-cooled direct injection engines intended to provide medium power capacity for continuous and high- performance operation.
