The Ship Concepts Panel, in fulfillment of its central undertaking for the Ship of the Future--2000 Workshop, presented 14 concept designs of ships predicted to operate in the years 2000 to 2025. These concept ships were grouped into five different categories: liner, bulk, sealift, passenger and specialty. Brief discussions are presented summarizing the conceptual designs and technical characteristics of each ship type. While the concepts were derived mainly on the basis of predicted technological advances, consideration was given to other factors peculiar to each. These factors included economic and environmental aspects, as well as such other variables as passenger comfort and ship convertibility. Following the summaries, the concept designs are illustrated, indicating vessel dimensions, engine capacities, advanced features, and general arrangements.
