THE VALUE OF DIAGNOSTIC AND MONITORING SYSTEMS

This article presents some brief reviews of instances where a lack of extensive monitoring of rotating machinery has caused major outages with serious financial consequences. A "positive" case illustrating the benefits of a condition monitoring system installed on two gas turbines is then discussed, and the dollar cost of monitoring is estimated.
