The KATHRINE SIF, the first of a class of five containerships ordered from the Orskov Staalskibsvaerft A/S yard in Denmark by Knud I Larsen of Copenhagen, is described. The ship has an overall length of 133.7m, a service speed of 17.2 knots, and a container capacity of 976 TEU, including 150 reefer boxes. The design of the vessel has taken into account many of the features of the Project Ship concept. With the advanced automation techniques employed, the Danish authorities have approved a manning level of eight, although the ship will initially run with a crew of ten.
