OPTIMIZING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A FISHING SHIP ON THE BASIS OF SIMULATION MODELING

Because modern factory trawlers are costly to both build and operate, optimization is important and can improve economic indicators by 5-10%. Mathematical programming methods have not been notably successful, however, in applications to fishing ships, indicating that experimental optimization of characteristics on the basis of simulation modeling is worthwhile. A simulation model developed for this purpose is described. It has seven groups of input data, six of which adjust the model if there is a change in standards or prices, or if statistics become more precise. The working group takes account of about one hundred parameters, from which the designer selects those to be optimized according to the problem at hand to be solved.
