ON INTERACTION PROBLEM BETWEEN BOUNDARY LAYER AND WAVE AROUND SHIP

An iterative method is proposed for the interaction problem between the boundary layer and the wave around a ship. The method combines an integral method based on 3-D boundary layer theory with the Rankine source method, and considers the head loss due to viscosity in the equation for the boundary condition on the free surface. The numerical calculation is carried out using Wigley models. Comparisons with measurements are made, with good results to some extent, for pressure distributions in the boundary layer and resistance components. The method is also applied to practical Series 60 ship models.
