A PREDICTION METHOD OF ROLL DAMPING OF A HARDCHINE BOAT AT ZERO FORWARD SPEED

A method for predicting the roll damping of a hardchine boat at zero forward speed is deduced on the basis of experimental results of the roll damping for two-dimensional section cylinders. In the prediction method, the roll damping is divided into three components: the wave damping, the eddy damping of the hull, and the skeg damping components. These components are then individually predicted. Frictional damping is ignored. The predicted results are in fairly good agreement with measured ones for fishing boat models.
