INVESTIGATION INTO THE INFLUENCE OF SHIP HULL ROUGHNESS AND SCALE EFFECT UPON HULL-PROPELLER INTERACTION

Hull-propeller interaction and the influence of hull roughness upon the velocity field of the propeller disk are studied on the basis of ship model test results and of calculations of the viscous flow past bodies of revolution. The calculation method takes account of the actual state of the hull surface by the use of a "roughness function" that describes the deformation of the logarithmic section in the profile of the averaged velocities near the solid wall. A method is developed for determining the integral characteristics of the nominal field of velocities in the propeller disk for a full- scale ship, and for determining the model-ship correlation of the propeller-hull interaction coefficients.
