COMPUTATIONAL MODEL FOR CALCULATION OF DUCTED PROPELLER PERFORMANCES IN ENTIRE FORWARD OPERATING CONDITIONS RANGE

A combined computational method is proposed by which to obtain the performances of ducted propellers operating at arbitrary forward advance coefficients. An impeller (the screw propeller itself) is modeled using lifting surface theory, and the surface vorticity distribution technique is employed for a duct. Impeller and duct are treated separately; their interaction is included through induced velocities and the iterative process. The wakes caused by circumferential variation of the velocity field are taken into account in both cases. The calculated results show good agreement with existing model test results.
