EFFECTIVENESS OF COAXIAL CONTRA-ROTATING PROPELLER IN SHIPS WITH VARIOUS POWER PLANTS
In combination with new ideas regarding the kinematic diagrams and structural design of high-power reduction gears, current engineering achievements in manufacturing provide a radically new basis for the extensive industrial use of coaxial contrarotating propellers. The high level of hydrodynamic effectiveness exhibited by these propellers has been known for many years, and awaiting exploitation. The experience of the USSR's Krylov Shipbuilding Research Institute in studying the effectiveness of the contrarotating propellers in relation to various ship power plants is discussed.
