PROBLEMS OF SHIPBOARD-ENERGY CONSERVATION THROUGH IMPROVEMENT OF PROPULSIVE PERFORMANCE

Improvement in the propulsive performance of cargo ships under operational conditions reduces fuel consumption at the designed service speed and increases in speed for available operational power. The results of an analysis of the efficiency of propulsion- system fuel conservation measures are presented for a large group of cargo ships of different types with deadweights of from 3,000 to 65,000 tons and powers of from 3 to 19 MW. The investigations took into consideration the latest engineering achievements in hydrodynamics and in the development of power plants for future ships.
