HULL FORM REPRESENTATION OF SWATH SHIPS BY RATIONAL CUBIC SPLINES

There has been a dramatic increase in the use of SWATH ships for applications in the fields of merchant ships, naval vessels and even offshore structures. It is explained how rational cubic splines offer advantages in defining the geometry of a SWATH ship because of their ability to define free-form curves with greater ease and precision. The surfaces of the upper hull, lower hull, struts, and, in particular, the filleting part of a typical SWATH configuration can therefore be well represented.
