This second edition of Parking Generation includes approximately 45% more data points than utilized in the first edition (published in 1985). Data for nine new land uses have been added, bringing the total number of land uses represented to 64. In some cases, however, only limited data could be obtained and thus may not be indicative of a particular land use. Users may wish to modify or adjust the rates presented in this report to reflect a site's location, public transportation service, ridesharing programs, proximity to other developments, or special characteristics. Local data should be collected for comparison when considering use of the data in this report. The report provides the user with three methodologies for determining the average parking occupancy of a land use or building: (1) parking generation rate, or the number of occupied parking spaces per one unit of independent variable (ie per employee); (2) a plot of the actual parking occupancies versus the size of the independent variable for each study; and, (3) regression equation of parking occupancies related to the appropriate independent variable.
