HANDBOOK ON STATICS AND DYNAMICS OF SHIPS, VOLUME 2: DYNAMICS (MOTION) OF SHIPS

This second volume of a handbook on ship statics and dynamics contains a thorough mathematical study of ship motions. Theoretical computations are presented for regular and irregular seas, conditions in which ship motions are calculated. General equations of ship motion are presented, including determination of moments of inertia, added mass and motion resistance coefficients, and reduction factors of disturbing forces. Cases of ship rolling in regular and irregular seas are considered, and an example of a computer-based calculation of rolling motion is given. The longitudinal motions of ships in both seas are calculated with a special section on the solution for a merchant ship. The last chapter provides experimental methods for determining the motion parameters of ships.
