A NEW FORM OF OPTIMIZATION DIAGRAMS FOR PRELIMINARY PROPELLER DESIGN

The preliminary propeller design optimization problem is formulated in general terms. The formulation includes cavitation and Reynolds number effects and is valid for free running or towing vessels. Two universal optimization relations have been derived that can be used to analytically solve all propulsion optimization problems whenever systematic propeller series are used. General purpose, easy to use optimization diagrams have been produced and their use is demonstrated.
