L.N.G. CARRIERS USING THE CONCH CONTAINMENT SYSTEM

The paper outlines the authors' views on the future shipping requirements for L.N.G. imports into the United States, Japan, and Europe over the next decade. The background to the development of the Conch Containment System for L.N.G. cargo is traced from the early work started in the 1950's to the present L.N.G. building program at Avondale Shipyards, Inc. Details of the design procedure for the aluminum cargo tank and test work carried out on the insulation system are given. A brief outline of the conventional part of the ships is included in the paper.
