MODERN HEADLAMPS (TWO-FILAMENT HALOGEN LAMPS H 4): STAGES THE DEVELOPMENT OF VEHICLE LIGHTING

MODERNE SCHEINWERFER (ZWEIFADEN-HALAGEN-LAMPEN H4). ENTWICK LUNGSSTUFEN DER KFZ-BELEUCHTUNG

The development of the car headlamp has been from the symmetrical dipped headlamp with a low reach in 1957 to the assymmetrical dipped headlamp which lit up the right-hand side of the road to a far greater extent. In 1966 halogen headlamps were permitted in Germany. They were used in full-beam headlights and foglamps. Further development led to the use of this system for dipped headlights. Advantages over the conventional system are described. Conversion to H-4 headlamps took place in the Federal Republic of Germany on 16.9.72. /TRRL/
