RAIL SEES BIGGER SHARE OF CHANNEL TUNNEL CARGO
As the Channel Tunnel between the UK and France moves toward its planned June 1993 completion, ports, shippers and transport operators are evaluating a steady stream of sometimes conflicting forecasts of its impact upon freight costs, transit times and trade patterns. This article focuses on the strategy of British Rail's Railfreight Division, which plans to directly serve six key UK regions with one or more intermodal trains in each and to provide private sidings on customer premises.
