THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BALANCING ROTATING AND RECIPROCATING MACHINES
Most practical engineers appreciate the need to balance machine rotors and have some knowledge of static and dynamic balancing techniques. They may not be aware, however, of the need that can often arise to rebalance machinery onsite at installation or of some of the consequences of running machinery in an unbalanced condition. This paper reviews the adverse effects of imbalance, discusses balancing methods, and describes practical examples where in situ balancing may be used in unexpected circumstances.
