The author points out that a great deal more technical knowledge is needed in one's chosen market sector of the shipping industry than used to be the case, and that this is particularly true of bunker broking. He explains the role that bunker brokers play in shipping and why selling marine bunkers in a proper and efficient manner is, in his estimation, as demanding as selling ships. It is pointed out that while the brokers earn their income from commissions, those commissions are not based upon the price of the bunkers but rather upon the quantity sold.
