The carriage and use of liquid oxygen by passengers aboard cruise liners is prohibited by U.S. regulations. With the cruise industry being so buoyant a sector in shipping, this prohibition has caused increasing problems with regard to passengers who may have need of liquid oxygen for medical reasons. It is explained how the Coast Guard has been working to find a solution and how exemptions can be obtained that are responsive to this medical need and enable such passengers to enjoy the pleasures of cruising.
