THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL FATIGUE STRENGTH ANALYSIS OF A BRACKET CONNECTION
Results are presented of constant amplitude and random amplitude tests carried out on a bracket connection, a typical welded detail of ship structures. The results are used to classify the fatigue strength of the bracket in an existing S-N curve system for welded steel structures, on the basis of nominal stresses. The results are also used to verify the applicability of known damage accumulation rules. Fracture mechanics methods are used to predict the propagation rate and direction of cracks in the bracket.
