EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL STUDIES ON SLOSHING IN PARTIALLY FILLED TANK
Most tankers and products carriers of the new generation are designed with wide cargo tanks and double-sided segregated ballast tanks. Their operational flexibility includes partial fillings of liquid cargo. These developments make the assessment of sloshing phenomena more important than ever to the assurance of the structural adequacy of cargo tanks. Both experimental and numerical studies were carried out to investigate sloshing effects in a partially filled tank and to develop a numerical simulation method for the prediction of design impact pressure.
