DETERMINING SHIP CHARACTERISTICS OF A FLEET AS AN OPTIMISATION PROBLEM BY GEOMETRIC PROGRAMMING

The problem considered is that of evaluating the quantitative characteristics of ships forming a merchant marine fleet for service on a given sea-trade route with a known total annual transport capacity. The problem is considered as one of capital investment, where optimal fleet selection will result in minimal annual cost. A classical geometric programming approach is therefore used.
