A DISCUSSION ON VELOCITY PROFILES AND EDDY VISCOSITIES FOR THREE- DIMENSIONAL BOUNDARY LAYER AROUND SHIP AFTER-BODIES

Through comparison with model test results, it is shown that some commonly-used methods for calculating the wall velocity profile and eddy viscosity in predicting the boundary layer around a ship afterbody are faulty. It is proposed that a corrective calculation based on measured data can be used to take into account the three- dimensional effects on the viscous field for thick boundary layers.
