In 1986, a consortium under the management of Philipp Holzmann AG undertook to erect a roofed building dock for the Meyer-Werft yard in Papenburg, W. Germany, for completion in 1988. The completion date was dictated by the scheduled laying of a vessel keel. The engineering problems that had to be solved in the planning and implementation phases are highlighted. The discussion begins with a general description of the project and goes on to cover the construction of the building dock and central building; the dock floor and internals; and the shipbuilding hall. Thanks to the willing cooperation of all involved, the construction project was handed over to the owners on time.
