STANDARDIZED PROVISION FOR THE RATIONAL DESIGN OF SHIP HULL JOINTS

Questions of the structural design of joints for such locations as the openings for cargo hatches, the stiffening at the ends of superstructures and the connections between longitudinal and transverse bulkheads have largely been resolved. Nevertheless, because of the numerous variations in the design of different hull joints, work is constantly going on to rationalize structural variants for the different joints. This article discusses the Soviet contribution to this work, and in particular the drafting of a series of standardization documents with the active participation of the Register of the USSR.
