A SIMPLIFIED APPROACH FOR PREDICTING THE WAVE RESISTANCE OF A SHIP

A simplified approach is proposed for predicting the wave resistance of a real ship. The program is based on the Michell linear theory and the Weinblum nondimensional technique. It uses a suitable numerical technique and is easily run on a personal computer. Hull shape need not be a simplified one that is symmetrical fore and aft; it can be arbitrary. The original Michell theory is improved upon by the approach presented. Also, as waterline segments and draft parts are increasingly divided, results become even better and begin to approximate those obtained using three-dimensional theory.
