PORT OF ROTTERDAM: PORT STATE IN CONTROL
Since 1950, Rotterdam has changed from being a war-shattered harbor to being the busiest port in the world. Projects underway to propel the Dutch port further ahead of its rivals in the years to come are reviewed. Aspects discussed include: the promotion of added-value service, efforts in the area of reception facilities and pollution prevention; the expansion of container-handling facilities in an attempt to regain the status of being the world's top container port; and developments at the repair and maintenance depots in the port zone, many of which specialize in tank containers.
