THE DEVELOPMENT OF PRIMOR'YE-TYPE MEDIUM CATCHING/FISHING VESSELS

For the USSR, the trend toward an increase in the fish and seafood catch in the 200-mile far-east fishing zone has made it necessary to develop a new fishing vessel for catching and processing crabs, shrimp and bottom fish. These vessels more completely exploit the resources of littoral zones, since improved methods of active trawling and purse fishing have been accompanied by the rapid development of passive forms of fishing. The base model for the new ship was determined using the "Proyekt-III" Fishing Ship Computer- Aided Design (CAD) System, which enabled the selection of ship characteristics that were optimal for each type of fishing. Full particulars are given on the base ship, which has a length oa of 39.9m, a hold capacity of 95 cu m, a speed of 10.3 knots at maximum displacement, an endurance time of 15 days and a crew of 16. General arrangement drawings are also shown.
