USE OF PERSONAL COMPUTERS IN MACHINERY CONDITION MONITORING

The use of personal computers in machinery condition monitoring is reviewed. Topics discussed include: processing needs; mathematical operations; features of boards available for interfacing; and hardware such as mathematical coprocessors and array processors. An overview is given of the IBM PC/IBM PC/AT and compatible family of computers and their capabilities for data acquisition, system monitoring and control. Examples of PC applications to machinery monitoring are given.
