DIAGNOSIS OF CRANKSHAFT CRACKS VIA THE MEASUREMENT OF THE TORSIONAL MODAL CHARACTERS OF A CRANKSHAFT FLYWHEEL SYSTEM

A new theory and its mathematical definition, relating to sensitivity of torsional vibration properties for partial structure cracks, is proposed. Formulas for sensitivity of modal properties and frequency response properties of local crankshaft structure parameters are given. The reactivity of vibration characteristics for partial crankshaft cracks is discussed and compared with theoretical analysis and modal test results. A modal damping of torsional vibration, a modal peak of frequency response transfunction, and a modal peak of power spectrum are recommended as the best crack fault criteria. A diagnosis of modeling cracks on the crankshaft is presented.
