TODAY'S DREDGE PUMP--BETTER METALS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Dredge pumps made in 1990 may be similar in appearance to those made in 1960, but the improved metals used in them are producing higher efficiency and longer wear life than was true for their predecessors. An overview is presented of the developments that have made these advances possible. It is stated that with the knowledge gained from hydraulic testing, and with proper impeller and pump case design, it has become possible to achieve dredge pump efficiencies of more than 80 percent.
