BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR AN AUTOMATIC SYNCHRONIZER FOR CONNECTING SHIPBOARD ALTERNATORS IN PARALLEL

A critical and complicated operation in controlling an alternating current electric plant is that of connecting alternators in parallel. A number of standardized automatic synchronizers are available for use in precision paralleling while observing permissible deviations due to current and moment surges or dips in voltage, and simultaneously observing permissible conditions for alternator synchronization stability. The characteristics and features desirable in these automatic synchronizers are discussed.
