THE USEFUL LENGTH OF A SHIP TANK

This paper describes an investigation into the variability of the results obtained when testing ship models in regular waves for both head seas and following seas. The understanding developed of the way waves propagate in a towing tank has led to new methods of designing seakeeping experiments, and to new methods of generating both regular and irregular waves.
