SHIPPING AND SHIPBUILDING POLICIES IN PR CHINA

A "great leap forward" in shipping and shipbuilding was launched by China in the late 1970s. The development of the country's policies in these two areas is traced. These policies have been determined by a combination of domestic and international variables and, in the opinion of the author, have been relatively successful. The future development of both the shipping and shipbuilding industries in China is assured by their increasing importance to the national economy.
