This article reviews the highlights of a report entitled "Review & Outlook of Shipping Market," issued by the Tokyo-based Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) Research Chamber. According to the report, a fragile balance between tonnage supply and demand has at last been restored to dry bulk shipping, and the challenge is to make this hard-won recovery last. Eleven tables present data for the period 1988-1991, including forecasts of real GNP growth rates of OECD countries, seaborne iron ore traffic and required tonnage, coal consumption, seaborne coal traffic and required tonnage, seaborne grain traffic and required tonnage, total dry bulk cargo seaborne traffic and required tonnage, and supply-demand trends.
