MANOEUVRING SIMULATIONS WITH CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES' FANTASY

The FANTASY class of three 70,000 grt cruise ships ordered by Carnival Cruise Lines of Miami and constructed by Wartsila Marine Industries represents the largest trio of passenger sisterships ever built. Simulations undertaken at the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) to ensure the optimization of maneuvering stratagies for the series are described. The simulations included open water maneuvering performance tests, wind tunnel tests, captive harbor maneuvering (crabbing) tests, and bridge simulator experiments for the specific conditions at Freeport Harbor, in the Bahamas.
