NEW RHEOLOGICAL MODEL FOR SOIL BEHAVIOR

The discussers observe that an important characteristic not represented by the model is instantaneous deformation as described by Casagrande and Wilson. This property was found in tests carried out on two Israeli clays at a moisture content near the plastic limit. Based on these tests, a rheological model describing instantaneous deformation, as well as the other three properties has been suggested. It is also noted that compacted clays usually demonstrate a gain in shear strength with time due to thixotropy, and much care must be exercised in applying their rheological parameters concerning undistrubed clays.
