WAVE PRESSURE ACTING ON HYDROFOIL CATAMARAN AND STRUCTURAL RESPONSE

There have been few studies made of methods for calculating wave forces on high-speed, hybrid-type hydrofoil catamarans, and of the relation between wave force and structural response. To investigate the applicability of a strip method that takes into consideration the interference between the two lower hulls, the authors carried out a model experiment in waves and compared the results with calculated ones. The authors executed three-dimensional finite element method calculations and clarified the relation between the characteristic global hydrodynamic responses and structural responses, the influence of the hydrofoils on total strength, and the influence of motion control on the strength.
