DEVELOPMENT OF ENERGY-SAVING LARGE FULL SHIP APPLIED WITH 'C' LETTER TYPE ASYMMETRIC STERN

As one way of increasing fuel economy for full-form, single screw ships, this paper presents a newly-developed asymmetric stern. Model tests were carried out for a Panamax-size vessel with the proposed asymmetric stern, and full-scale power requirements were estimated using a newly-proposed method for self-propulsion analysis. Results show that energy savings of about 7% can be expected with use of the stern.
