COMPUTER BASED CONTAINER CONTROL SYSTEMS
The exchange of containers in container terminals requires the recording of container details, the planning and control of stacking areas, the allocation and control of container handling equipment and labor, the planning and execution of container exchanges between ships and land transport, and the development of a historical database for performance monitoring, statistics and accounting. This paper outlines the development in Australia of computerized container systems for processing and coordinating data for all these functions. In particular, it describes the most recent design implemented by Seatainer Terminals in Melbourne.
