DEVELOPMENT AND USE OF RIGID INFLATABLE RESCUE CRAFT

Rigid hulled inflatable boats have been in service since 1961, but demand has increased dramatically during the late 1980s. The call is for boats between 5 and 15 meters long, with performance capabilities that meet the operational requirements associated with their use by rescue organizations, patrol agencies, customs services and military type groups. The advantages and disadvantages of different design configurations for these "rapid response" craft are weighed and various operational considerations are discussed.
