UNSTEADY HEAT CONDUCTION ANALYSIS OF THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER OF I.C. ENGINES

A one-dimensional model of unsteady heat conduction has been developed to study temperature swing phenomena on engine combustion chamber walls. The model can be used to predict instantaneous temperature distribution and the magnitude of transient temperature layers in the walls. The model is coupled with an engine cycle simulation model and the finite element method is used to solve the unsteady heat conduction model of the combustion chamber components. The effect of the material properties of ceramic coated and metal combustion chambers is discussed, as is the effect of engine speed on temperature swing phenomena.
