THE INFLUENCE OF CAVITATION NUCLEI ON CAVITATION INCEPTION ON THE SMOOTH AXISYMMETRIC BODIES

Several experiments on cavitation inception with four smooth asymmetric bodies were carried out. Cavitation nuclei were seeded manually in order to change the nuclei spectrum in the free stream flow. Major conclusions of the research were that: (1) the cavitation nuclei spectrum influences both the cavitation inception number and cavitation type; (2) fuzzy systems theory is suitable for predicting cavitation inception and type; and (3) different nuclei spectra are required for different free stream velocities in order to simulate the same cavitation phenomenon.
