A COMPARISON OF SUCTION AND PRESSURE SIDE CAVITATION CHARACTERISTICS OF DUCTED PROPELLER BLADES

This paper discusses the characteristics of cavitation-induced pressure fluctuations on the inner surface of propeller ducts. Five ducted propellers were tested in a simulated wake field in the cavitation tunnel at China Ship Research Center in Wuxi, China. Observation indicates that the extent of sheet cavitation on the suction side is larger than that on the pressure side under the same loading condition in the tested wake field. Tip vortex cavitation with back cavitation appears to be relatively thicker, stronger and more stable than tip vortex cavitation with face cavitation.
