DEVELOPMENT OF NEW MARINE PROPELLERS WITH IMPROVED CAVITATION PERFORMANCE

An attempt to develop a propeller with improved cavitation performance is described. As a first step, a new foil section was designed to reduce cavitation at various angles of attack. The foil section design method was then extended to the design of new marine propellers through the concept of the equivalent two-dimensional foil obtained from lifting surface theory. Experiments were carried out using the new propellers and the MAU-type propeller in order to verify the improvement in cavitation performance of the newly designed propellers.
